Solar Panels 101
First things first. How do solar panels work?
It’s important to understand that solar energy is the most abundant natural energy source on Earth, and on a basic level, solar panels help us capture and convert the rays from the sun into usable energy.
Did you know that the sun is made up of tiny particles called photons? This is what your panels will convert into electricity for your home. Long story short, the sun creates endless energy that your panels can capture and (with the help of some super cool technology) convert into usable electricity. Without getting too technical, there are three main types of solar technologies.
- Solar Heating and Cooling: Solar Heating and Cooling (SHC) systems collect thermal energy to provide hot water and air heating or conditioning for your home.
- Concentrating Solar Power: Concentrating Solar Power (CSP), although it uses the heat generated by the sun like SHC systems, it is more commonly used for traditional electricity-generating turbines in the case of power plants.
- Photovoltaics: Photovoltaics are used to generate electricity from the sun that can be used to power anything from a small electronic to a home or large commercial business. Momentum Solar provides photovoltaic solar panel systems.2
Momentum Solar Now Offers Battery Storage!
Now that you’re an expert on how solar panels work and the type of panel installations Momentum Solar has to offer, let’s talk battery storage. Depending on where you live, when you produce excess power with your solar panels, the power could get sent back to the grid and you could be credited with a feature called net metering. The same sort of energy banking applies for solar battery storage! However, instead sending excess power to the grid, it gets sent and stored in your solar battery system at your home.
Essentially, homebuyers who choose to install battery storage can harness their extra power and save it for a rainy day – literally! Another bonus to installing battery storage is that your home has back-up power for you to use should there be an outage in your area.
We are excited to offer battery storage to our homeowners thanks to our exclusive partnership with Enphase. The Enphase Encharge battery backup system seamlessly stores excess electricity produced by your solar panels and helps you break away from the grid whenever you want. In fact, homeowners can be completely independent from the grid by selecting when to pull electricity from the grid and when to pull from their battery.
To help homeowners with all sizing needs, we offer two modular options for battery storage.
Encharge 3: This storage system is a 3.36kWh battery unit that is flexible and scalable.
Encharge 10: For more capacity, the Encharge 10 boasts a 10.08 kWh battery without sacrificing its flexibility and scalability.
